Jefferson's Own Terre Rouge
$15.95

Non-Vintage. This light-bodied red is perfect for everyday drinking and rewards those looking for a good glass of wine at great price.  Bright red fruits and a hint of oak round out the palate, with clean acids and light tannins making for a refreshing finish.  Serve alone or with lighter fare.

Cabernet Franc
$18.95

Vintage 2006. Combining a light, delicate palate-weight with intense flavors of bright red raspberry and cherry fruit, the Cabernet Franc fruit is tempered by soft white pepper, cinnamon and baking spices.  Polished acids and elegant, satiny tannins round out the finish.

Merlot
$18.95

Vintage 2006.    From the very strong 2006 vintage comes this classic example of cool-climate Merlot, showing fresh red berry aromas and flavors with a clean, pronounced minerality underlying the fruit.  A year in neutral French oak barrels adds subtle vanillin and toast to compliment the fruit, without intruding upon it.  As is typical of our reds, the wine is in its infancy now, but over the next 3 to 5 years will reach its peak maturity, showing the nuance and character that only bottle age can bring.

Petit Verdot
$19.95

Vintage 2006.    This unique and powerful wine delivers a mouth-filling burst of dark red fruit tempered by black currant, spices, bacon, grenadine and tobacco.  Immediately following this initial burst, the overwhelming tannic structure of the wine consumes the fruit, leaving a bone-dry finish with lingering notes of orange flowers, chocolates, rosemary and thyme.  This wine can be enjoyed over the next five years and pairs well with the heaviest game dishes utilizing fatty sauces.

Meritage
$29.95

Vintage 2006. 37% Cabernet France, 30% Merlot, 23% Petit Verdot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.  Produced from just less than 25% of the total red wine harvest, the 2006 Meritage balances intense, sweet, palate-saturating red and black fruits with a delicacy rarely found in Bordeaux blends.  Intermingled are notes of cassis, toast, espresso and chocolates on the mid-palate, with Provencal herbs on the finish.  The fine grained tannins and beautiful acid structure balance the intensity of the fruit and carry the wine to an ethereal finish, suggesting handsome rewards for those with the patience to cellar the wine into the next decade.  900 cases produced.

Magnums and Double Magnums available.

Merlot Reserves

Tastings in November and December

Vintage 2002 ~ $24.95

The 2002 Merlot Reserve is the product of a very long, very dry growing season which produced a small crop of very ripe, clean fruit with mature fruit flavors, fine grained tannins and low acid.  The cuvee of 100% Merlot was aged fourteen months in French and American oak, adding strong elements of toast and vanillin to the classic varietal flavors of blackberry, ripe cherry and cedar.  As is the case in every vintage, our estate grown Merlot shows Provencal herbs in the finish.  The 2002 cuvee should continue to improve through 2008.  Best served with herb-crusted lamb.  16 cases remain of 200 produced.

Vintage 2001 ~ $24.95

The 2001 Merlot reserve reflects the extraordinary quality of the vintage -- a sufficiently wet Spring, dry summer with occasional light rains and a dry harvest of warm days and cool nights.  As such, the fruit was very ripe and clean, with big, robust natural acids to balance the bright berry flavors typical of Merlot.  Fourteen months in French and American oak mellowed the blend considerably, softening the acids and adding significant toast, vanillin and dark cocoa flavors in the mid-palate and finish.  Best served with herb-crusted lamb. 21 cases remain of 200 produced.

Petit Verdot Reserve

Limited Tastings

$44.95

Vintage 2005. The cuvee is a blend of 77% Petit Verdot, 9% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Cabernet Franc.  This vintage proved almost equally productive to 2002, deemed one of the greatest vintages in the last 30 years.  We aged each varietal separately in French and American oak barrels and created the final blend in June 2006.  The blend was then returned to barrel for extended aging.  This unique wine delivers beautiful elements of black cherry, grenadine and tobacco in a complex tapestry of flavor and aroma that will develop beautifully for the next 8 to 10 years.  Enjoy with the richest meats, particularly good with braised venison.

About our Estate Reserve

Made only in the best vintages, and only from the best fruit grown on our property, each cuvee of Estate Reserve represents the pinnacle of our ambitions.  Since 1983, we have bottled Estate Reserve only 7 times, making it not only a wine of compelling quality and style, but also one of Virginia's most rarely seen cuvees.  Our practice is to hold the wine after bottling for up to a year, depending on the cuvee.  Noted wine writer Tom Stevenson has called Jefferson's Estate Reserve “one of the 10 best wines made on the East Coast.”

Estate Reserve 2005
Limited Tastings
$44.95

28% Cabernet Franc, 26% Petit Verdot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 21% Malbec

Each individual wine was aged 14 months in French and American oak.  The blend was made from our very best barrels of each of the four wines, creating and sampling numerous blends until we achieved the desired flavor, acid and tannic profile.  The blended cuvee was then aged for an additional six months in oak.  The nose reflects the richness and complexity of the wine itself, with dark red fruits, chocolate and cassiscurrently dominating.  Youthful and robust at present, we expect very positive development over the course of the next 8 to 12 years.  At present, we recommend decanting the wine 24 hours in advance of serving.  This will will pair well with the most robust red meat dishes.   75 cases produced.
